The Santa Barbara County Sheriff's Office is asking for the public's help in finding the man who robbed a Santa Maria liquor store at gunpoint.

The name of a local soldier who died in Afghanistan in August was added to the Freedom Monument Veterans Memorial in Santa Maria. Santa Maria had its 18th annual Parade of Lights Saturday night.
Floats and performers paraded down Broadway street and people from both San Luis Obispo and Santa Barbara counties lined the sidewalks see the lights.
Marching bands, cheerleaders, floats, and even a roller derby team were part of the parade, but most people said they came to see Santa.

Santa Maria police are investigating a shooting that happened at about 2:00 p.m. on Saturday.
It happened in the parking lot of a discount mall at 204 North Blosser Road.

A local high school student has started a blood drive through her school's community service program.
A personal tragedy in Aliya Mendez's life could have been prevented if there was more blood available for people in Santa Maria.
Through Pioneer Valley High School's AVID program, Mendez was able to start the blood drive.
Students in the AVID program participate in at least 50 hours of community service each year.
Posted 7:37 PM 12/4/2013 by KSBY NewsOne of the ten people awaiting trial in the murder of Santa Maria resident Anthony Ibarra has accepted a plea deal. Pedro Torres, Jr., 54, pleaded guilty to being an accessory after the murder. He is expected to be sentenced to three years in prison in February. The remaining nine defendants have pleaded not guilty. Ibarra's body was found in a U-Haul truck in March.
