Officials say 145 people have been arrested for DUI in Santa Barbara County since Friday, August 16th. According to the Santa Barbara County Sheriff's Office, officers from 12 county law enforcement agencies have made the arrests during checkpoints and routine traffic stops. On Friday and Saturday night, August 30th and 31st, there were two AVOID the 12 checkpoints. They were both held in the 400 clock of Chapala Street in Santa Barbara. As a result of the checkpoints, officials arrested 10 people for DUI and made one felony drug arrest. 17 people were cited for driving without proper licensing, and three people were given criminal citations. Local law enforcement will continue to step up patrols throughout the Labor Day weekend. Extra DUI Saturation Patrols will be deployed in several cities throughout Santa Barbara County. Officials say the number of arrests could increase because not all agencies have turned in arrest data yet. (Editor's Note: A previous version of this story said the arrests had taken place between Friday, August 30 and Sunday, September 1. That has been corrected to August 16 through September 1.)
