Over the last 18 months a gas station in San Luis Obispo has had its sign smashed-in six times.
The owners are speaking out because replacing this sign costs them thousands of dollars.
They say it's a bad image for the business and the neighborhood.
The owners usually fork out $1,400 to replace the sign, but this time they are frustrated and the sign remains smashed.
"At night time after midnight they just keep breaking it every time we replace it," said the owner of the gas station who wishes to remain anonymous, "We replaced it one time and it only lasted three weeks."
There is a security camera at this station on the corner of Broad and High Streets and in February, the owners watched back the surveillance video after this sign was destroyed.
They said they saw a white car drive up to the sign, and a man in his 30s jump out.
"The guy looks around to see if anyone is watching and then he takes a baseball bat and it goes boom. Then a ride comes back to pick him up and they take off," the owner said.
The owners say they have filed a handful of police reports, but no one has been caught.
"So you think it is the same person. Yes. I don't think it is someone coming drunk from downtown. I don't, because why would they only do this station. Why are not doing down the street at Conserve," said the owner.
As for a resolution to this problem, the owners say they can't raise the sign off the ground because of city code and they have to display a certain type of sign to stay with the 76 brand.
According to the city, there are other options; they would just need architecture approval.
The San Luis Obispo City Police Department says there have been a handful of police reports filed over the past couple years.
However there is no current investigation because police do not have a suspect description.
