AG Eagles soar to dual meet win over San Luis Obispo track and field

The Arroyo Grande High boys and girls varsity track teams scored Pac 7 League wins over rival San Luis Obispo on Thursday in a meet that featured some of the Central Coast's top athletes.

The AG boys won a tight meet with the Tigers 71-65, while the girls rolled 88-44.

Christine Moreno, Alex Mero and Madison Jacobs each won two events for Arroyo Grande. Mero took the long jump with a top leap of 15-10 and won the high jump at 5-4. Jacobs, who's signed with Kentucky, won the shot put with a toss of 41-10 and the discus with a mark of 143-1. Moreno won the 400 meter run in 1:00.51, as well as the 200 meter dash in 26.84 seconds. The Eagles also scored wins from Elizabeth Heyde in the mile (5:33.17), Carina Avila in the 100 hurdles (16.53 seconds), Jade Fuller in the 800 (2:24.81), Leah Rife in the two mile (12:15) and Anna Zhang in the pole vault (8-6).

San Luis Obispo's Ariel Becker won the 100 meter dash in 13.49 seconds, Kelsey Harper won the 300 hurdles, and Grace Torres won the triple jump with a mark of 33-5.

Jack Ferguson won both throwing events for the Tiger boys. The Cal Poly recruit won the shot put (44-3) and the discus (144-10). Connor Hall, who's headed to Duke, won the pole vault by clearing 15-6 on fewer attempts than Arroyo Grande's Joey Reeves. Both vaulters are among the best in the state with personal best heights of 16 feet.

AG's Sean St. Denis took two events taking the 400 in 53.83 seconds and the 200 meter run in 24.31 seconds. John Nichols won the 800 meter run for the Eagles and Blake Maule won the mile in 4:40.1. DeSean Scott won the long jump for AG at 19-10, while Matt Willkomm cleared 6 feet to take the high jump.

Elijah Holt, who ranks second in the state this season in the 110 meter hurdles, easily won the event with a time of 15.12 seconds.

Josh Ernst won the 3,200 meter run in 9:54.22, while Nate Greenelsh edged Holt in the 100 dash with a time of 11.48 seconds. Liam Stewart took the 300 hurdles in 32.33 and Chris Toh won the triple jump with a top mark of 39-2.

Both schools will compete this weekend at a meet at Atascadero High.
