AG girls soccer clinches title, Bearcats make AG boys wait for theirs

The Arroyo Grande High girls soccer team clinched its first Pac 7 League title in three years, but the boys team missed out on its shot to wrap up a championship and now must play the waiting game.

The Lady Eagles blanked Paso Robles 5-0 on Wednesday night to clinch the crown. Arroyo Grande finished league 10-1-1. Five Eagles scored one goal as Kali Pengilley, Emily Mitchell, Nadine Reed, Mallory Flatebo and Carinna Ambriz each put one in the back of the net.

St. Joseph blanked the San Luis Obispo girls 2-0 to clinch a playoff berth. The Tigers fell to 8-3 in league headed into Friday's finale at 8-2-1 Righetti. The Knights improved to 5-4-2 in league.

Paso Robles senior goalie Elmer Solis blocked shot after shot in the cage for the Bearcats as they played spoilers at home against the AG boys. The Bearcats blanked the Eagles 1-0 behind an early goal from Felipe Aguilar.

Solis blocked a penalty shot from Michael Fregoso midway through the second half to preserve the shutout. He finished with five saves.

AG ended league play 9-2-1, while Paso Robles improved to 5-6.

The Eagles half a one point lead in the standings over second place Righetti. The Warriors beat Atascadero 2-1 on Wednesday to move to 9-2 in league. Righetti plays at San Luis Obispo Friday knowing a win gives the Warriors the outright title, a tie results in a share of the crown.

Pioneer Valley is 8-2-1 in league and can make things interesting with a win on Friday against Atascadero.
