AG, SLO, Santa Ynez tennis advance in CIF, three others exit in first round

The Arroyo Grande, Santa Ynez and San Luis Obispo boys tennis teams won their CIF playoff openers on Wednesday to advance to Friday's second round.

Pac 7 League champion Arroyo Grande cruised 16-2 at home against Millikan out of Long Beach in the Division 3 bracket. The Eagles went 9-0 in singles play as Eli Whittle, Sean Hollister and Derek Lakowske dominated play. Whittle dropped a total of 5 games in 3 sets, Hollister lost 4 total after securing two bagels, while Lakowske won 6-3, 6-1 and 6-0.

The now 18-5 Eagles won 7 of their 9 sets in doubles action. Bryan Rozo and Tyler Anderson teamed up to win 6-3, 6-1 and 6-1, while Cole Laughton and Ryley Anderson paired up to sweep 6-3, 6-1 and 7-6 (1). Skyler Zirpolo and Jake Sarver took one set in doubles. The Eagles are coming off their fourth straight undefeated run through Pac 7 play. Arroyo Grande advanced to the quarterfinals last year in Division 2.

San Luis Obispo won on the road at Buckey 12-6 to advance to the Division 3 second round. The Tigers, who improved to 15-4, will host the top seed in Division 3 Valencia in Friday's second round. SLO's #1 singles player Mason Hansen swept his three sets 6-3, 6-1 and 6-1. Josh Milla and Scott Hicks teamed up to win all three sets at the Tigers' #1 doubles position. They won 7-5, 6-2 and 6-4.

Righetti fell 14-4 at Oaks Christian, the 6th seed in Division 3.

In Division 4, the Templeton boys lost 12-6 at 10th seeded Cate and Santa Maria dropped a16-2 decision at fourth seeded Laguna Beach in the first round.

Los Padres League champion Santa Ynez led Yucaipa 12-0 after the first two rounds of action and cruised into Friday's second round.
