Andre Dome named Big West's Athlete of the Week for eighth time in career

For the first time this season and the eighth time in his Mustang career, Cal Poly tennis star Andre Dome has been named the Big West Conference's Athlete of the Week.

The senior went undefeated in singles and doubles last week to help Cal Poly win twice to open the season. Playing at the #1 position in singles and doubles, he swept St. Mary's Jessi Kiuro 6-2, 6-4 in Saturday's 5-2 win. He also teamed with Jordan Bridge to win in doubles 8-3. The following day, the Arroyo Grande High graduate won a three-set thriller in singles 6-3, 6-7 and 6-2. Dome and Bridge also teamed up to win in doubles 8-1. The 62nd ranked Mustangs upset 50th ranked Fresno State 4-1 in the preseason match.

Dome has now won eight Athlete of the Week awards, which ranks third all-time in Big West Conference history.

Cal Poly competes this weekend at the ITA National Indoor Championships in Westwood. The Mustangs' next match is Tuesday, January 29 at USC.

Dome is this week's Legend in the Making. Tune in to KSBY News at 6, 10 and 11 p.m. Wednesday night as Bill Halter shows why Dome will likely go down as the best player in program history.
