The Santa Maria woman charged with stabbing a cat to death at her ex-boyfriend's house last week made her first court appearance Tuesday but did not enter a plea.
43-year-old Nellie Marie Palacios is accused of killing the cat January 2 in Orcutt. She told deputies she was acting in self defense after the cat attacked her.
Palacios' arraignment was continued to Friday.
She has been charged with one felony count of animal cruelty.
