Arrest made in connection to stabbing at Santa Maria liquor store

Police have made an arrest in connection to a stabbing at a Santa Maria liquor store last week.

On July 3, Santa Maria Police responded to Gateway Liquor in the 1600 block of N. Broadway in response to a stabbing.

When they arrived, they say no victims or witnesses were at the liquor store, but a short time later, the 19-year-old victim from Santa Maria arrived at a local hospital with stab wounds to his upper torso.

Police say Joseph Anthony Garcia, 18, who is believed to be associated with a local criminal street gang, was arrested on Sunday.

He was booked into the Santa Barbara Sheriff's Office Jail on suspicion of conspiracy to commit murder with a gang enhancement.

The incident is still under investigation.

Anyone with information is asked to call the Santa Maria Police Department at 928-3781.
