People wanting to leave the car and high gas prices at home now have an easier way of doing so in Atascadero.
The city and the San Luis Obispo Council of Governments (SLOCOG)has opened the Atascadero Transit Center Project.
The Transit Center will be the central hub for riders who use Atascadero Fixed Route Transit, the Regional Transportation Authority (RTA) Route 9, Amtrak Bus Lines, and Greyhound.
It's located downtown next to City Hall, the future County Library and the Colony Square Commercial Plaza along Capistrano Avenue. It's architecture was fashioned after the design elements of the historic Atascadero Train Station that existed in the early days of the Atascadero Colony
It has ten benches, solar powered lighting, decorative street lighting, and an information kiosk.
Federal and State transportation grant funded the project.
