Repairs were made to part of the Bob Jones Trail in Avila Beach Monday after a sewage pipe burst, spilling raw sewage on the bike and walking path.
The leak happened on Blue Heron Road between the golf course and the San Luis Bay Estates Sunday morning.
In order to fix it, workers had to remove some of the pavement in the area.
Officials with the San Luis Obispo Public Health Department say the company that owns the sewer line was able to stop the leak and make repairs.
"They had had a pumper-truck and a water wash down truck on site, and cleaned up the path and washed the treatment that the used to disinfect the area," said environmental health specialist Peter Hague.
Walkers and bikers are encouraged to be careful along that part of the trail.
No sewage went into the creek.
