Jenna Wookey and Megan Clark led the Paso Robles softball team to a dominant 12-1 win at San Luis Obispo on Friday in a Pac 7 League battle. The Bearcats improved to 3-1 in league and 8-5 overall. The Tigers, who were playing without star Andrea Reynolds, dropped to 1-2 in league and 10-4 on the year.
The Bearcats opened the scoring with 3 runs in the first inning. Wookey singled home the first run of the game. Carly McCall singled in two more to make it a 3-0 game. The Bearcats made it 4-0 in the second inning when Monica Garcia stole second base and came all the way around to score when the catcher's throw to second got by the infielders and centerfielder and rolled toward the wall.
The Tigers scored their only run of the game on a grounder from Hailey Rich with the bases loaded and two outs in the bottom of the second inning. The throw to first was off-line and the first baseman appeared to tag Rich as she ran by, but the umpires ruled she was not tagged and Kimi McCarty scored on the play.
Jenna Rogers earned the win by throwing the first 4 innings. She allowed one hit and one unearned run. Clark threw 3 hitless innings to complete the win. She had 2 hits, a triple and drove in 3. Wookey went 2 for 5 with 5 RBI for the Bearcats.
The Tigers managed only one hit in the game, while the Bearcats tallied 11.
Both teams do not play another league game for almost two weeks.
