Two Central Coast high school basketball players are recognized as State Stat Stars of the Week by Cal Hi Sports, the self-proclaimed high school sports leader of California for 35 years.
Atascadero point guard Robbie Berwick and Mission Prep's Connor Woolpert were two of the 31 boys basketball players from across the state highlighted this week.
Berwick, a junior, recorded two triple-doubles for the Greyhounds at Arroyo Grande High's Taro Kobara Tournament. Berwick scored 30 points to go with 10 rebounds and 10 assists in an 86-41 win over Hoover on the last day of the tournament. Earlier in the week, Berwick tallied 10 points, 10 rebounds and dished out 10 assists in an 86-35 win over Nipomo.
Woolpert was honored after he knocked down eight 3-point shots and finished with a game-high 33 points and 10 rebounds in the Royals' 82-63 win over Paso Robles to open the AG Tournament. Woolpert helped the Royals to a runner-up finish in the event.
Marcus Lee of Deer Valley High out of Antioch also made the list. The 6-10 Kentucky-bound star tallied his first triple-double of the season in a 77-67 win over Berkeley. Lee had 21 points, 19 rebounds and 11 blocked shots. Lee and Deer Valley are playing in St. Joseph's third annual National Prep Classic this week. Deer Valley battles defending NPC champion Pacific Hills on Friday at 8pm at the Allan Hancock College gymnasium.
