The author of the best-selling books, The Circuit, Breaking Through, and Reaching Out visited Fairlawn School in Santa Maria Wednesday.
Francisco Jimenez talked to students about his family's personal struggles as Mexican Immigrants working in the agriculture fields. He says he has many family members who live in Santa Maria, including his nephew, who is a teacher at Fairlawn. Jimenez spoke with students about the importance of education and how it helped his family break through the migrant life.
He is a professor in the Department of Modern Languages and Literatures at Santa Clara University.
