Big surf is up through Monday

Larger waves will develop over the course of the weekend from the west to northwest facing beaches from Point Conception to the Monterey County line.

8 to 12 feet with local sets to 15 feet during the peak of the event on Sunday.

Dangerous rip currents will affect beaches in the advisory area posing a threat to swimmers and surfers. In addition sneaker waves can suddenly inundate beaches and wash over jetties.

If caught in a rip current do not try to swim against the current. Swim across the current until away from the strong flow and then swim to shore. Do not climb across jetties and never turn your back to the ocean as sneaker waves could knock you into the water.
