A moderate long period west swell will build into the waters this evening. High surf and strong rip currents are expected at area beaches through Friday night.
High surf advisory remains in effect from 2 pm this afternoon to 8 pm Friday
Surf building to 8 to 11 feet with local maximum sets to 12 feet this evening and then continuing through Friday evening.
The highest surf will occur on west to northwest facing beaches.
High surf will create strong and dangerous rip currents in the surf zone as well as waves that can suddenly wash people off of beaches and rocks.
A high surf advisory means that high surf will affect beaches in the advisory area producing rip currents and localized beach erosion.
Remember if caught in a rip current swim parallel to shore until you are free of the powerful current. Always swim near a lifeguard.
