Bloomquist, Torres and Allen lead Mustangs to 5-2 win at San Jose State

Nick Torres and Jimmy Allen led the Cal Poly offense with two hits apiece in the 22nd ranked Mustangs 5-2 non-conference win at San Jose State on Tuesday. The Mustangs, who've now won four in a row, improved to 32-14 on the season. The Spartans fell to 14-34.

Cal Poly scored single runs in the second and third innings. Allen doubled home Torres with two outs in the second and Brian Mundell singled home Denver Chavez with two outs in the third. San Jose State scored one in the fourth to cut the lead to 2-1, but Cal Poly responded with a run-scoring grounder from Ellis that drove in Peter Van Gansen, who had doubled. SJSU scored a run in the bottom of the seventh, but Cal Poly added two key insurance runs in the eighth inning on a RBI single from Tommy Pluschkell and a sacrifice fly from Van Gansen.

Torres and Allen had 2 hits each, while Torres scored twice. Cal Poly tallied 9 hits, while the Spartans had 5.
