A botched burglary led police on a high speed pursuit through Northern San Luis Obispo County early this morning.
Tonight, two suspects are now in custody.
"It was pretty scary there were helicopters going over, so I walked out to see what was going on," said one witness.
A quit morning was shattered by the sound of a police pursuit
"A lot of police officers ran into our neighborhood in a matter of seconds," said another witness.
Two men led police on a high speed chase from Cayucos to Atascadero following a failed burglary attempt.
"The suspects continued to flee from the pursuing officers and ended up here on El Camino Real in the town of Atascadero," said CHP officer Dan Hart.
After crashing their black Nissan pickup, the suspects ran into a nearby mobile home community.
"I looked out the window, and police cars were all over the place," said resident Andy White.
Police combed the area for the suspects using the CHP chopper and k9 units.
According to neighbors, one suspect attempted to force his way into one of the mobile homes.
The two people living their held the door shut, as the suspect tried to push his way through.
After the suspect was unsuccessful, he then kicked a hole underneath the home and crawled in.
The resident heard him under their floor and contacted the police immediately.
When deputies arrived, K-9's were let loose, finding the man under the house. Deputies were then able to pull him out and arrest him.
Shortly after, a second suspect was found nearby and taken into custody.
"Right now officers and deputies are investigating the matter and will determine what appropriate charges will be levied against the suspects," said Hart.
As a result of the chase, Templeton school district and two Atascadero schools were placed on a precautionary lockdown, but were lifted shortly after the suspects were in custody.
