Bowl-a-Thon raises money for special education programs

A group of severely handicapped students spent Wednesday morning bowling in Santa Maria. Beside having fun, the students were there to practice teamwork, develop motor skills and raise money for special education programs . This was their 19th annual fundraiser. Last year's fundraiser brought in $10,000 for the special education program. Director of Special Education at SMBSD, Karen Andersen, told KBSY, "Some of the items that we need to assist them with bowling or assist them to be in the community are very expensive so we can always use more support from the community financially to support the community based instruction." Eight classes participated.
