Brown's 7 RBI lead AG baseball by Righetti 27-18 in a slugfest

A game that featured 45 runs, 38 hits, 12 errors, two 9-run innings, one 8-run inning and one 7-run frame ended in a 27-18 win for Arroyo Grande baseball over visiting Righetti on Wednesday afternoon.

The Warriors and Eagles are tied for first in the Pac 7 standings at 5-3 after splitting the first two games of their three game league series. Righetti is 12-5 overall and AG is 9-6.

The Warriors scored 4 times in the first inning and built a 7-2 lead after an inning and a half. Chris Curiel clobbered a Daniel Ramirez pitch over the wall in center for a 3-run blast to give Righetti a 5 run lead. The Eagles answered with eight runs in the bottom half on a 2-run double from Dylan Azevedo and a grand slam home run from Kyle Brown that gave AG a 10-7 lead.

Trailing 11-7, Righetti responded with a 9 run fourth inning to take a 16-11 lead. Matt Watkins contributed to the inning with a 2-run double to the wall in left-center field.

The Eagles answered back with 9 runs in the 5th and 7 more in the 6th inning.

AG junior Jayce Thoming earned the win with a scoreless fifth inning of work. He was the only pitcher in the entire game to not allow a run.

The Eagles collected 22 hits in the win. Chris Davidson was 4 for 5 with 3 runs and 3 RBI. Garrett Ball and Azevedo each scored 5 times. Azevedo had 4 hits and 3 RBI, while Ball was 1 for 2 with 2 walks and was hit by two pitches. Casey Muth was 4 for 5 with 4 RBI and 4 runs scored. AJ Cipolla was 3 for 4 with 4 RBI. Brown led the Eagles with 7 RBI and had 3 hits in 6 at-bats.

Righetti collected 16 hits. Isaiah Ramos led the Warriors with 4 hits and 4 runs scored. Curiel finished with 2 hits and 4 RBI. Six Warriors collected 2 or more hits, while Troy Prober, Matt Silveira, Cameron Jones and Watkins had 2 RBI apiece.

The series finale is Friday at 4:30 pm at Righetti High.
