Cal Poly hangs with Pitt for 25 minutes but loses

The Cal Poly men's basketball team continued it's toughest non-conference schedule ever with a 73-56 loss at the University of Pittsburgh. The setback drops the Mustangs to 4-7 while the Panthers, now in the ACC, improve to 11-1.

Senior forward Chris Eversley led Cal Poly with 16 points and senior guard Kyle Odister added 13 but the Mustangs weren't able to keep pace down the stretch on the offensive end. Pittsburgh had a 37-34 lead with 14-and-a-half minutes to play before going on a 16-5 run to put the game away.

The Panthers shot 59 percent (16-for-27) from the floor during the second half and made all 12 free throw attempts. They were led in scoring by senior forward Lamar Patterson who had a career high, 30-points.

It was Cal Poly's first game in the state of Pennsylvania and just the third all-time contest against an ACC team.

The Mustangs continue their four-game road trip at Stanford on Sunday, December 29.

Head Coach Joe Callero will be the guest on Sunday nights Mustang Roundup which airs at 11:33 on KSBY.
