With so many players back from last years team Cal Poly head coach Tim Walsh could probably set his depth chart for the season opener right now, with one big exception, quarterback. None of the four contenders were able to win the job during spring practice and Walsh expects they'll need at least two weeks to find the right guy. "I think everyday it's going to be evaluated but I would really think that by August 17th or 18th we'd like to be pretty close to a decision. At least the first and second guy and then who probably is third and fourth. Then the reps would start to change at that point in time" said Walsh after the teams first practice on Monday.
The candidates for quarterback are:
"I just go out there and compete and have fun. I'm not really trying to look in the future right now, I'm going to take it day by day and just see where that takes me" said Trosin. "I feel like we're all pretty friendly to each other. We all like each other, we have meetings like everyday so we're around each other 24-7."
Cal Poly opens the season on August 31 with a home game against the University of San Diego. The Mustangs best the Toreros 41-14 to open the 2012 season. After the game against USD, Cal Poly plays two FBS opponents on the road. The Mustangs will play at Fresno State and at Colorado State before their one bye week of the season.
