Certain vitamin could lower risk of Diabetes

Nearly 8,000,000 Americans have higher than normal blood sugar levels, but not even to be considered diabetes.

Researchers are studying if Vitamin D can help these people avoid the disease. The National Institute of Health will enroll 2,500 adults with pre-diabetes from 20 areas across the country.

Patients will receive a high dose of vitamin D or a placebo pill. They will be given check-ups twice a year to determine if the vitamin has lowered patient's blood sugar.

Smaller studies have shown that the supplement can lower the risk of diabetes by 25 percent.
