EL CAJON, Calif. (AP) - California Highway Patrol officers fatally shot the driver of an SUV after a high-speed chase in San Diego County.

The sheriff's department says the 2005 Chevrolet Tahoe reached speeds of 95 mph on Interstate 80 and then hit 80 mph on surface streets in El Cajon before the driver lost control and the vehicle rolled over. The Tahoe landed on its wheels and the driver moved towards officers.

Thinking the man was reaching for a weapon, CHP officers opened fire, officials said. He was hit by multiple rounds and declared dead at the scene.

The driver's name has not been released.
