The Santa Maria City Council has a big vote ahead of them Tuesday night. They will decide whether to allow another discount store into the downtown area.
If the council approves the Fallas discount store, it will move into the old Mervyn's building in the Town Center West shopping center.
The building has been empty for more than five years, and it costs the city $50,000 in lost local sales tax each year.
Back in June, the council was split 3-2 on the issue, with three members against Fallas moving in.
City staff recommended the council postone deciding on the matter until this Tuesday night.
The City Council meeting begins at 6:30 pm.
The council is also scheduled to vote on a moratorium which would prevent any more discount stores from coming into the downtown area.
