Comic legend Stan Lee to host concert for troops

Comic book king Stan Lee is flexing his influential muscles on the Central Coast.

The creator of some of the most well-known superheroes wants to honor our nation's heroes in a special way.

"I've been writing about superheroes most of my life and they're all, as you probably know, maybe shouldn't say this, but they are all ficticious," said Lee. "Here we have real superheroes living among us, wearing uniforms, United States uniforms."

The Spiderman creator is spinning a web of support for troops. The second leg of the Stan Lee POW!er Concert series kicks off Saturday.

The money raised will go to organizations like the Wounded Warriors Fund.

"They stop and speak to me and the stories they tell and the appreciation that they feel for the people that do write to them, and the people who send them things, at least they know they're remembered, somebody is contacting them," said Lee.

But unlike the stories he tells, these avengers are real.

"I think many of us, myself included, the real superheroes are the ones that support us," said Chief Master Sergeant Patrick McMahon. "Those family members, those significant others and that goes a long ways."

He doesn't need special powers to know that these iron men deserve recognition.

Lee offered these words to the troops today: "The problem is enough people don't realize what you guys do and how well you're doing it. People just go about their daily lives. They don't think about it and you should be thought about more, so for all the people who don't think about it, thank you very much."

Daughtry will perform this Saturday at the Santa Maria Elks Unocal Event Center.

Discounted tickets are available for service members.
