Concussions may have lasting effect on kids

A new study suggests concussions may affect a child's brain even after the symptoms subside.

The majority of concussion studies involve adults, so researchers wanted to see if children were more vulnerable to head injury.

They examined 15 children who had suffered a mild head trauma and monitored structural changes to the white matter in their brains.

The changes that were present two weeks after the injury remained more than three months later, even if they felt no symptoms.

Experts say it appears children are more vulnerable to brain injury and should be followed more closely after a concussion.
