Construction underway on Hancock's new track and practice fields

Just weeks after dedicating a new baseball stadium, Allan Hancock College started work on its next field of dreams. Construction crews have started tearing up the old soccer and baseball fields. They are making room for a new track, football practice field and soccer fields..

The track will essentially go where the old baseball field used to be. A new baseball diamond was built across the next street and next to the softball facility.

Athletic director Kim Ensing says the new fields and track will be major boosts for the community, as well as for Bulldog athletics.

"When you recruit local student-athletes or any student athletes part of the consideration in determining where they decide to go is the quality of the athletic facilities . So it's a win-win for everyone," said Ensing.

The fields and track are expected to be completed by July 12 in time for fall sports teams to practice on them.

Funding for the project comes from Measure I. But the bond measure does not include money for stadium seating. A donation from the community could help complete the stadium to allow for football and track and field events to be held at Hancock College.
