Cuesta basketball sweeps Moorpark in conference openers

The Cuesta College basketball teams are leaving Moorpark College with thrilling victories to open Western State Conference play. The Cougars return home to host LA Pierce College next Wednesday with the men set to go at 5pm and the women at 7pm.

Kenny Robinson hit the game-winning bucket at the buzzer to deliver a thrilling 81-80 win for the Cuesta men's basketball team .

The Cougars improved to 14-8 on the season after their 21st-straight road game. They return home to host preseason conference favorite LA Pierce next Wednesday.

Robinson tallied just four points in the game, but the last two were the most important. Plamen Hristov, a sophomore from Bulgaria, recorded a double-double with a 25 point, 20 rebound effort. Arne Ingebrigtsen, who's from Norway, added 21 points for the Cougars, while Portugal-native Oscar Pedroso added 17.

The Lady Cougars upset Moorpark 49-47 to improve to 13-7 overall and 1-0 in conference. Three Cougars scored in double figures. Atascadero High graduate Alyssa Palma and Morro Bay High graduate Aria Johnson each scored 11 points. Johnson added 9 rebounds. Courtney Chadwick added 10 points.
