Cuesta loses to Cypress, drops series 2-0

For a second straight year the Cuesta baseball team was swept out of the first round of the playoffs by Cypress. The ninth seeded Chargers beat the eighth seeded Cougars 8-3 on Friday and followed that up with a 5-0 win on Saturday. Both games were at Cuesta, had the Cougars won game two the teams would have played game three later in the day on Saturday. Cuesta finishes the season with a 21-17 record.

Cypress starter Ryan Hartman threw 8 1/3 scoreless innings, allowing just four hits before being relieved for the final two outs of the game. The Chargers had nine hits.

Lompoc High School graduate Lucas Martin pitched all eight innings (Cypress was the home team even though it was played at Cuesta) for Cuesta. Martin allowed five runs but just three of them were earned as the Cougars committed three errors, one of them by Martin.

Cypress is 10-3 in playoff games against Cuesta since 1991. The Chargers advance to the Super Regional.
