Deliberations resume in al-Qaida spokesman trial

NEW YORK (AP) - Deliberations have resumed in the New York trial of Osama bin Laden's son-in-law on charges he conspired to kill Americans in his role as al-Qaida's spokesman after the Sept. 11 attacks.

Manhattan federal Judge Lewis Kaplan signaled a fast verdict might be likely in the case of Sulaiman Abu Ghaith (SOO'-lay-mahn AH'-boo GAYTH). He said he may direct jurors to stay late Wednesday if they have not finished their work.

The jury did not reach a verdict Tuesday in more than four hours of deliberations. The 48-year-old Kuwaiti imam has pleaded not guilty.

Prosecutors say videos in which he threatened America show he embraced bin Laden's desire to kill Americans and joined his conspiracy. Abu Ghaith was captured in Jordan last year and brought to New York for trial.
