Diego leads Righetti by SLO and into tie for first place

Ivy Diego scored two goals in a seven minute span in the first half to lead the Righetti High girls soccer team to a 2-1 victory at previously undefeated San Luis Obispo on Friday in a key Pac 7 League match.

Michaela Olney assisted on the first goal, which came in the 26th minute. Diego created the second goal on her own in the 33rd minute with a shot that caromed off Tiger goalie Lily McCann.

The Tigers and Warriors are now tied for first with 5-1 records after the first half of league play. Arroyo Grande is right on their tails at 4-1-1.

Sydney Knauer scored for the Tigers in stoppage time in the second half to make it a one goal deficit, but the Tigers ran out of time.

San Luis Obispo was on the receiving end of a costly missed call late in the second half. Kesley Harper dribbled down the sideline and into the box when she was clotheslined by Warrior defender Carly Koertge. Harper stayed down for a few moments, but stayed in the game. Koertge maintained she did not mean to foul Harper. The lead referee discussed the play with the sideline ref, who said the foul happened outside of the box. The Tigers were not awarded a penalty shot, but rather given a free kick just outside the box. The Warriors' defense deflected the ensuing pass out of harm's way. No card was issued.
