Diet sodas may cause people to gain weight instead of lose it.
Researchers at Purdue University analyzed data from several studies and found that diet soda may be linked to obesity and heart problems. The data suggests that the artificial sweetener in diet sodas may throw off the body's ability to know how many calories it needs, which could lead to overeating.
Representatives from the american beverage association say the study is more opinion than fact and cite several studies in which people drinking diet sodas lost weight. Experts say diet sodas should be consumed in moderation, if at all.
