DNA tests lead to identification of skeletal remains found in San Luis Obispo

The San Luis Obispo County Sheriff's Office identified the remains of a body found over the summer.

In August, authorities say they found a partial skelton near Tank Farm Road between Higuera Street and Highway 227.

The person leasing the land discovered the badly-decomposed remains in the water of the creek that flows through the property.

At the time, the coroner could not identify the body and submitted an investigation for DNA profiling.

The DNA match linked to the Texas Department of Criminal Justice. The body has been identified as William Grant Grable II, 51, a transient from Texas.

The Sheriff's Office says Grable appears to have died of natural causes, but because of the advanced state of decomposition, the cause and manner of death remains undetermined.
