Doctors could predict weight loss success in patients

Doctors may be able to predict the success of weight loss surgery by looking at a patient's DNA.

Harvard researchers have identified people with two copies of a specific gene variant, lost an average of 39% of their body weight after surgery. Patients without a copy of this DNA variant loss less than 30% of their body weight.

Experts say this information could help doctors advice patients towards a weight loss solution that will work best for them.
