Doctors warn of dangers of Sudden Impact Syndrome

A new study highlights the dangers of Second Impact Syndrome, when young athletes return to sports too soon after suffering a head injury.
Researchers at the Indiana University School of Medicine treated a 17-year old football player who suffered a head injury.
His CT scan was clear, but he still experienced headaches and dizziness. Despite these symptoms, he returned to the field and was injured again. He spent nearly 100 days in the hospital and is still in a wheelchair.
Doctors say his first scan didn't show that his brain had filled with blood, and that caused extreme swelling and brain damage when he was hit again.
Doctors say you must pay attention to symptoms, not only CT scan results.
