Driver accused of hitting, killing Santa Maria teen pleads not guilty

The woman accused of hitting and killing a Santa Maria teen in June has pleaded not guilty.

Kelsi Lynn Sullivan's attorney made the plea for her in court Tuesday.

Santa Barbara County District Attorney Joyce E. Dudley announced last week that the charges, which include one count of vehicular manslaughter, a misdemeanor, had been filed against Sullivan.

Leticia Hernandez Sanchez, 15, was hit and killed June 29 while she was crossing the street at an unmarked crosswalk at Miller Street and Newlove Drive around 9:30 p.m.

Dudley says Sullivan was not believed to have been driving under the influence when she failed to yield the right of way to Sanchez in the unmarked crosswalk.

Her next court appearance is scheduled for Sept. 21.
