Elegado to Return to Cal Poly for 2014-15 Season

SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. - Cal Poly guard Ariana Elegado has chosen to use her final year of eligibility and will return to the Mustang women's basketball team for her upcoming (fifth-year) senior season.

Elegado, who redshirted as a freshman in 2010-11, graduated in June with a recreation, parks & tourism admin. degree and will now be a graduate student with a concentration in sport management.

This past season, Elegado moved to No. 8 in school history in career scoring (1,065), and is also 63 assists shy of No. 2 in program history in that category. Her junior season also saw her make the sixth-most 3-pointers in Big West history (86).

While considering grad school possibilities, Elegado also interned for the L.A. Sparks this summer.

"It's safe to say she's one of the best players ever in our program," head coach Faith Mimnaugh said. "We're so excited she's made the decision to come back."

She averaged a team-high 17.0 points in 2013-14 while also tying for the Big West lead in assists (4.5 per game) and earning all-conference first-team honors.

"It's obviously a great opportunity for our basketball program," Mimnaugh said of her return, "but we're also just really excited for her and her future."
