Alexis Elias led all scorers with five goals as the Arroyo Grande High girls water polo team beat Paso Robles 13-3 in its Pac 7 League opener on Tuesday to extend its impressive streak. The Eagles, who are ranked 4th in this week's CIF Division 3 Coaches poll, won their 91st-straight league game. AG is seeking its tenth-straight league title under the direction of head coach Steven Allen.
The Eagles scored the first goal of the game about 90 seconds into the match when Kelsey Docouto lobbed one over Paso goalie Marti Rae Grois. Elias scored the next three goals of the game to give AG a 4-0 lead after the first quarter.
The Bearcats took advantage of some AG mistakes early in the second quarter. With AG goalie Hannah Wadlow away from the goal after trying to grab the loose ball, Rebecca Tobey buried a goal into the empty net for the Bearcats' first goal of the game. Shannon Rees intercepted an Eagle pass back to the goalie in front of the net and cashed in with a goal to make it 4-2 early in the second quarter. But AG regained control as Elias, Docouto and Morgan Clark scored to give the Eagles a 7-2 lead into halftime.
Docouto and Isabella Manuele had two goals apiece for AG. Wadlow and Alana Benson combined for 5 saves in the cage for the Eagles.
Paso Robles started the week just outside out of the top 10 in the Division 3 Coaches poll.
