Fingertip bitten off California woman during fight

FONTANA, Calif. (AP) - Police say a man bit off a woman's fingertip during fight in Southern California.

The Riverside Press-Enterprise reports that 42-year-old Juan Carlos Gomez of Fontana was released on bail Monday after being jailed on suspicion of stalking, assault and mayhem.

Fontana police say on Sunday afternoon Gomez went to the home of a 48-year-old woman and 19-year-old man to confront them about a previous dispute.

Police say during the fight, Gomez attempted to choke the man, and the woman intervened.

A police statement says Gomez then "bit the tip of the female victim's finger off ... severing it just above the last knuckle."

A message left late Monday night at a possible home number for Gomez was not immediately returned.
