Fire damages Santa Maria home

The Santa Maria Fire Department says a fire late Sunday night caused $100,000 in damage to a home and its contents. The fire broke out around 10:00 pm in the 1400 block of Claremont Place. When firefighters arrived, they found flames in the garage, spreading into the house. It took them about 30 minutes to get the fire under control. Firefighters say the four adults who lived in the home got out safely and no one was hurt. "I saw smoke coming out of the garage door, and I opened it up and just smoke came everywhere, and then I walked down, ran down and got his son, and I woke them up and was getting them all out," said April Rogers, who escaped the fire. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
