Flu virus reacts to humidity

Engineers at Virginia Tech University have figured out why the flu is seasonal.

In lab studies, they found the virus flourishes when humidity levels are below 50%. When humidity rises, the virus is unable to infect cells as easily.

That doesn't mean you can't catch the flu in the summer. They also found the virus can thrive when humidity is close to 100%.

Flu season typically runs from October to May in the U.S.
