Fundraiser held for San Luis Obispo Sheriff's K9 Unit

Some local animal heroes were out in full force Saturday.

The San Luis Obispo Sheriff's Advisory Foundation hosted a fundraiser to support its K9 Unit.

The event was held at Moose Lodge in Pismo Beach.

Guests got to meet with some K9's and also enjoy a barbecue, silent auction, and raffle.

According to the Sheriff's Department, having dogs is an affordable way to reduce crime and keep officers safe.

"The dog doesn't talk as much as a regular deputy, licks a little, and works much more inexpensive than a regular deputy, but it provides them with protection they need. If they're out in an isolated area, the dog serves as their protector," said San Luis Obispo County Sheriff Ian Parkinson.

A second fundraiser will be held Saturday April 20th in Santa Margarita.
