There are two fundraisers this week for local kids battling cancer.
On Wednesday, Jersey Mike's in Arroyo Grande and Santa Maria will be donating all of the proceeds to the Talbert Family Foundation.
Three families, including the Cotas, are receive financial help from the foundation.
"We're very blessed with the medical portion of it, but it's all these other things that add up very quickly that you don't think about like with two weeks ago, it was not planned, we were in the hospital for four days," says Erika Cota, whose 2-year-old son, Mateo, has leukemia.
This coming Sunday, March 30, Nu Alpha Kappa is sponsoring a non-profit that supports kids with cancer by collecting pledges per basketball shot made. The organization is called Shoot for Life. It'll be held at Mott Gym in San Luis Obispo at 3 p.m. and will also benefit Mateo.
The founder says he wants to make 800 3-point shots in one hour. That would break a world record.
