Behind a combined 36 points from Hannah Gilbert and Nikki Bloom, the Morro Bay girls basketball team routed Santa Ynez 63-16 on Monday in a Los Padres League game.
The Morro Bay Pirates won their 24th-straight LPL game and improved to 9-0 in league and 16-3 overall. Santa Ynez dropped its 12th-straight game and fell to 0-9 in league and 1-22 for the season.
Gilbert, who's signed with Cal Poly, led the way with 22 points and 9 rebounds. Bloom finished with 14 points.
Morro Bay, the two-time defending LPL champions, climbed four spots to #8 in its division in the latest CIF Coaches Poll.
The Lady Pirates host second place Templeton Wednesday night in a big game. The Eagles are 7-1 in league and 18-3 overall. They trail Morro Bay by 1.5 games in the league standings.
The Pirates beat the Eagles 58-26 earlier this month. A win over Templeton would clinch at least a share of Morro Bay's third-straight league championship.
The Santa Ynez boys earned their second LPL win of the year with a 67-46 victory at Morro Bay. Clinton Anderson, a junior, led the visiting Pirates with 27 points. Santa Ynez improved to 2-7 in league, while Morro Bay, the defending LPL co-champions, fell to 3-6.
