ORANGE, Calif. (AP) - A 3-year-old girl is dead, and her father has been critically injured, after they were struck by a car that slammed into a Southern California bus stop.
Orange police Sgt. Fred Lopez said the crash occurred Saturday afternoon.
The driver of a Kia Soul told investigators he swerved to avoid hitting another vehicle that cut him off.
Lopez said the car struck a bus bench occupied by a couple and their young daughter in a stroller. The girl was rushed to a hospital, where she was pronounced dead, and her father was placed in a medically induced coma.
Lopez said the father is expected to survive. The girl's mother was not injured.
Investigators said the driver underwent a toxicology screening, and no drug or alcohol was found in his system.
