Jonathan Gomez drilled a shot from just outside the box and sent it into the upper right corner of the cage for the golden goal to lead the Nipomo boys soccer team to a thrilling 1-0 win at Camarillo in the first round of the CIF Division 3 playoffs on Friday.
The Titans did not register a shot on frame in regulation, but found their groove in overtime. Gomez's goal came on an assist from Ben Jimenez in the 95th minute.
The 14-9-4 Titans stayed in the game behind their defense and the play of goalie Johann Ayala. The sophomore earned the start and made at least 15 saves for the Titans.
Nipomo hosts 22-4-2 Palmdale next Wednesday in the second round.
The Morro Bay boys soccer team lost 4-0 at Oxnard. Morro Bay was making its first playoff appearance in nearly a decade and finished the season 14-9-3. The Pirates beat Eastside 3-2 in their wildcard match on Wednesday.
Oxnard improved to 16-2-3.
Orcutt Academy lost 4-0 at Cate in its Division 6 opener to finish the season 14-8-2.
