Our Good Question comes from someone who says, for a long time, she's wondered about a sign on a building in San Luis Obispo.
Julie O'Daniel from Los Osos asks: an old building near the Amtrak station says "Future Home of the San Luis Obispo Railroad Museum." Is there ever going to be one there? Good Question.
Hang in there, Julie, the museum is coming. It's going into the original freight house built by the Southern Pacific Railroad in 1894 at the same time as the station.
The city of San Luis Obispo finished it's part of the project last month by setting new foundations and renovating the exterior. The handrails, access stairs and ramps were completed, too.
The Railroad Museum is in charge of finishing the interior. New "up to code" fire and electrical systems have already been installed. And, as funds come in, fixtures and artifacts will fill out the interior design.
The museum is set to open in October during the Central Coast Railroad Festival.
