Whether it's red, white or sparkling, the Central Coast is home to some great wines. But people who aren't afficiandos often ask this question: Does the kind of glass you drink from affect the taste of wine. Good Question.

Experts say the aroma of a wine of is key to flavor, and the form of a glass affects both.

Red wines are best in a wider glass with a large bowl. A greater surface area of wine mixes with air which releases richer aromas.

White wines need a narrower bowl for less air exposure and sides that keep the aromas in the glass. Whites are more "perfumy" wines and the right glass keeps the aroma from being oxygenated away.

Champagne or sparkling wines don't have much aroma or perfume but you want a slim, tapered glass to keep the bubbles in. A tall glass gives the bubbles a greater distance to rise before they spread out into a creamy mousse at the top. Experts call this "the show."
