GQ: How did Mother's Day start?

If there's one holiday that sons and daughters never miss it's Mother's Day. It's only 4 days away.

Dan Trotter from Atascadero asks a simple question? how did mother's day come about? Good Question.

Mother's Day celebrates Moms and their contributions to society.

In 1868, Ann Jarvis created "Mother's Friendship Day" to reunite families divided by the Civil War, but it never became widespread.

For years after that, other women's groups tried to get a Mother's Day centered on anti-war or anti-alcohol themes.

In 1908, Jarvis' daughter, Anna, held a memorial to her late mother in West Virginia and then campaigned for a national holiday honoring mothers.

In 1914, Congress made the second Sunday in May the official Mother's Day.

Another question is about the spelling: Remember, there's an apostrophe "s" after Mother.
